Syllabus
Dear Parents of Knightdale Elementary Students:
The Physical Education Department of Knightdale Elementary would like to welcome you to a brand new school year. Below is a brief description of expectations and procedures for participating in PE class.
Mandatory Dress Code: Students MUST wear tennis shoes on the days of their scheduled PE day. UGGS, sandals, slippers, boots, etc. are not allowed. Any type of boots does not give the support students need while they run around. Students come to PE class one day a week for 45 minutes. Please make sure on their scheduled PE day, students wear the proper tennis shoes and clothing to class. For the safety of the students, these rules will be strictly adhered to or it will serve a consequence: non- participation (which will affect their overall grade), and students will complete a worksheet.
In gym class, *students are responsible for their own learning*, whether being active, completing work, or remembering safety rules including proper clothing head to toe.
Grading: is based on participation, sportsmanship, and a positive attitude. There are specific standards each grade must engage in. (ex: Kindergartens will not be doing the same activities as 5th graders because they will be working on different aspects of physical education). A grade will be given depending on the student’s ability in each standard and their growth over each activity. This gives each student a fair and equal opportunity to earn their own grade depending on their ability. In physical education, each student must participate in all activities. Not only is it a curriculum grade, but it is also a chance for students to learn how to be active and have fun while doing it. If a student is sick or injured and you do not want your student to play, please write a note directly to me informing me, so they their grade is not deducted due to ‘not wanting to play”.
* Physical Education is about being active and engaged. Please make sure that if your child has any medical concerns (ie: asthma) the proper procedures need to take place. All medical supplies will be left in the office. If a student has asthma, they must go take their inhaler before entering the gym.
Thank you in advance for your help and cooperation. Welcome to another wonderful year and I look forward to working with your student, helping them achieve a healthy and active lifestyle.
